Worcester International Film Festival to show more than 250 films across 5 days as event returns for 6th year

Worcester Film Festival returns to the city between 22nd and 26th September, with the event showcasing more than 250 films across five days in a celebration of filmmaking and community engagement, with the aim to bring more of the film industry to the region and create a space for film lovers to enjoy independent cinema.

Taking place at ODEON, Foregate Street, the festival hosts a curated programme of events, including screenings, cast and crew Q&As with established and emerging talent, showcases, free talks and workshops demystifying areas of the industry and an awards ceremony to champion the exceptional films on show. This year’s judging panel includes Daisy Ridley (Star Wars) and Jessica Henwick (Game of Thrones). In previous years, the festival has hosted star names including Martin Freeman (Sherlock, The Hobbit), Patrick Fabian (Better Call Saul), Ralph Ineson (Fantastic Four: First Steps), and Mathew Horne (Gavin & Stacey)

Nominations range from independent shorts to full-length features, with shortlisted films showcased to audiences, critics, and industry professionals alike. Among the 25 categories, notable nominations include British Short Film, Midlands Short Film, Emerging Filmmaker and British Feature Film.

Since the festival’s debut in 2021, audiences have grown from 250 to 2,300, with organisers securing partnerships with BAFTA, ODEON and RTS Midlands. The festival is also accredited by the British Independent Film Awards (BIFA), the only festival to carry this title in the West Midlands. Local businesses also benefit from the influx of tourism, with increased footfall in local bars, cafes, restaurants and hotels throughout Worcester and the wider area.

Kirstie Gregory and Hendrik Harms, founders of Worcester Film Festival, said: “We love this area and we’re proud to be working with so many fantastic organisations. We’ve really seen this region grow over the last few years and the fact that such notable talent are being attracted to our event is a testament to the region’s growing reputation on the film industry stage.
